Then it happened.
Tim McDonald was one of the players in danger of elimination with just 67k but when he found queens, he decided he had to go with it bubble or no bubble. He three-bet half his stack preflop, following an opening raise to 10k and the other player made the call.
The pair went heads-up to an A♣ A♠ 2♦ flop and when the initial raiser checked, McDonald threw the last of his chips into the middle. Once again the ESPN/ media scrum scramble was in full effect.
He was insta-called and his queens were in a world of hurt versus ace-two for a flopped full house! Needing running queens to get out of it, he did managed to spike one on the river, but it was too late once the turn had blanked and Tim McDonald is the man who has filled that unwanted bubble spot.
He does however receive a Main Event seat next year, so it's not all bad for McDonald. The poker world does have a heart after all.
Well the floodgates have opened now everyone is getting paid and all those players who had blinded down to a bowl of rice are merrily and frivolously throwing their chips into the middle with any old hand.
Already in the ten minutes following the bubble bursting, we have lost another 36 players. The chains have been lifted and everyone is going for it with gay abandon. Hallelujah!
